Cassidy Ann Sloane is one of the main protagonists in The Mother-Daughter Book Club (series) she is perfect in every way and can do no harm, she deserves everything and is better than everyone of those fat ugly pigs she calls friends.

Early Life[]

Cassidy is born in Laguna Beach, California. She has an older sister, Courtney. She was extremely close with her father, and he taught her how to skate, catch, surf, and ride a bike. They had frozen bananas at Balboa's, and went to San Diego frequently. They always sailed on the 4th of July, and went to drive-ins with Courtney.

In 3rd Grade, Cassidy joined PeeWee hockey and is number 77 in "Laguna Lightning". Despite her mothers wishes. Her best friend from California is Hannah Blum, a surfer. For Cassidy's 9th birthday, she gets a signed poster from Wayne Gretsky. She watches the Red Sox with her dad, and gets a camera for her 10th birthday. She takes a picture where the light is "magic", but her father dies in a horrific car crash shortly afterward. She and her sister and mother end up moving to Concord, on Hubbard Street, in order to be closer to her grandparents.

Appearance[]

Cassidy Sloane is a tall, skinny girl with bright red hair and grey eyes. Megan explains that she could be very pretty if she took more of an interest in her looks. She has red hair, freckles, and slightly upturned nose. She usually does not care about her appearance, rarely brushes her hair, or pays attention to what she wears. Her hair is cut short in the first book, then again in eighth grade.

Personality[]

After her fathers death her mom noticed some changes in her, she was more grumpy and her anger issues had increased. Cassidy enjoys sports, particularly hockey, and photography. Her father took her on many hiking trips, so she was familiar with hiking rules when the Mother-Daughter Book Club got lost in the woods in the Much Ado About Anne.

Cassidy is a funny, sarcastic character who never thinks twice about getting even with someone who is mean to her or her friends. She is a good friend and will defend her friends against mean girls.

Family[]

Mr. Sloane (Cassidy's Father)[]

Cassidy and her father had a beautiful relationship, since she has a more tomboyish personality she got along better with her dad. He was an amazing father; hard to compete with, taking her and Courtney on daddy daughter dates and clearly loved them, they were a priority to him. When he died in a tragic car accident he took a huge whole from each of his family members hearts and Cassidy took it very hard.

Mrs. Sloane-Kinkaid/ Clementine (Cassidy's Mother)[]

In the first book Cassidy and her Mother clearly didn't get along. Cassidy was mad at her mom for moving them across the country away from home to concord. Not only did her mom move her away form the only home she'd ever known, she also wouldn't let Cassidy play Hockey anymore and didn't approve of her lack of manners, always getting onto Cassidy about every manners mishap. Her mother was grieving and didn't let onto Cassidy that the reason she didn't want Cassidy playing Hockey was because she loved Cassidy and didn't want anything to happen to Cassidy, it only reminded her of the traumatic death of her husband. When Cassidy pulls a huge prank on Becca in the first book her mother resorts to taking Cassidy to a family therapist to get to the bottom of her behavioral issues. After this visit Cassidy makes a better effort to become more mannerly, be more respectful and as a result only visits the therapist a couple times after. Despite there differences the visits to the therapist bring Cassidy and her mother closer together as the have a better view of what each other are feeling.

Courtney (Cassidy's sister)[]

Like all siblings, Courtney and Cassidy didn't get along at all in the beginning of the series during Cassidy's middle school years. Perhaps it was because their personality's and personal interests didn't align at all. For one, Courtney was into fashion, being popular and boys, and Cassidy was into anything sports and could care less about fashion and boys in the boyfriend way. Or maybe their inability to get along was because Courtney was so much like her mom that Cassidy was jealous of their relationship, Courtney always sided with her mom in arguments.

Over the years as they both matured they began to get along better and Cassidy realized when Courtney left for college at UCLA how much she loved and was going to miss her. In the later books Cassidy even turns to Courtney for advice about pretty much anything boy related.

Stanley Kinkaid (Cassidy's step father)[]

Cassidy hated Stanley when he first started dating Mrs. Sloane-Kinkaid, it felt to her like a betrayal to her dad. How could her mom love this man more then her dad? However had Stanley tried he couldn't win Cassidy over, she wasn't ready for a new dad and she never would be. But Stanley grows on Cassidy ever so slowly she learns that its not a betrayal to her dad and accepts that her Dad wants her mom to be happy and Stanley makes her mom happy so she better stop grumping around and be nice to him. She doesn't have to force herself to be nice for long because Stanley actually convinces her mom to let her join a girls team and goes out of his way to take her to every practice plus a hockey camp to prepare for tryouts.

Love Interests

Zach Norton[]

Zach and Cassidy met the summer after 5th grade right after she moved to Concord at baseball practice. He was likely one of her first friends in town. Since Cassidy is more of a tom boy he got along really well with her and she became one of the boys, she didn't notice of course but he devloped a crush on her over the years. Then in 8th grade he kissed her and she was furious and even threw a baseball mit at him in response showing him the feeling wasn't mutual. However she got over it and his pride healed and they started dating in 10th grade. They broke up at the end of Wish You Were Eyre because she liked Tristan better. He is said to be a slobbery kisser but a world class hand holder by Cassidy.

Tristan Berkeley[]

At first Tristan and Cassidy hated each other. She called him "The Duke of Puke", "Tristan Jerkeley" and "His Majesty" behind his back. He wounded her pride, treating her with minimal respect. It didn't help of course that their first encounter was right after hockey practice when she was all hot and sweaty. Then she became his substitute ice dancing partner as a favor for Mrs. Bergson. Tristen and Cassidy bonded over those hockey practices, and even though we don't get to be a part of all their practices it is clear they slowly warmed up to each other and shared some inside jokes. She even was jealous of and suspicious of his relationship with Annabel it was a barrier keeping her from getting any closer to him. At the dance competition she attended in England he defended her against Annabelle after Annabelle blamed Cassidy for her an incident that was Annabelle's own fault. Cassidy graciously took Annabelle's place which afterwords Tristen shows her huge gratification by giving her a hug, and they went to the ball at Chawton together where they shared a kissed . Cassidy said that was a very memorable and great kiss. Then when he came to Concord for another visit in Wish You Were Eyre, they kissed at the rink after she broke up with Zach Norton. They are seen together at Gigi's wedding, and are likely to be together in future as hinted by Megan's POV.

Sam Parker[]

Sam Parker is Cassidy's pen pal Winky's older brother. She dances with him at a square dance in Wisconsin. She says she got a few letters from him after that and that they were hilarious.

Jake[]

Jake is a man Cassidy meets at Camp Lovejoy. He is about her age and is known to go to MIT. Cassidy pours the contents of a cooler down his and his friend Chase's backs on the Fourth of July. He asks her out to a movie or something at 5:00 A.M., with her dripping in sweat and "smelling like last week's dirty gym socks."
